Göller

Lower Austria, AT

03-03-2023

First skitour of my life. Göller, Lower Austria, as I’ve been told a good one for beginners.

Here’s a bit more data about our path: bergsteigen.com
Skitters always got a bit of risk regarding avalanches, therefore always check your route before starting at Skitourenguru.

START

We parked the car at a miniature parking place near the Chapel of Maria am Gscheid. Our proposed path was about two and a half hours put to the summit. On the way we also passed the Gsenger.

Raphi on his touring skies and I had to walk up with snowshoes, since I haven’t got a split board yet.

In the woods, where there was not to much snow, it was easy to keep up with his pace, but higher up the mountain, as the forest became thinner and more snow was still on the ground, it became a challenge. Especially as it got steeper and I tried to follow my buddies route. The snowshoes made it difficult, there are way thicker then skies. So walking across a steep slope was exhausting.

However it was rewarding us with a beautiful view.

So as we reached the tree line, Raphi was in his own world and paced away. So I was on my own for at least half an hour.

After 3 hours, minimum 15 after Raphi, I also finally hit the summit.

Marvellous view.

SUMMIT

Now the part that we’ve been waiting for. Riding down the hill. First on the ridge to get to the right slope.

I instantly realised how demanding the way up was for me, my thighs burned immediately.

But oh my days was it beautiful to ride down there. Let’s give you a few sequences:

Besides all the fun, you should never lose your concentration, otherwise things like this can happen.

Fortunately it was just an amusing crash and nothing bad happened, on the contrary to be correct, I’ve got quite nice video material 😀

Enjoying the little powder that’s left, with the last bit of energy. Thank goodness I only had to play a football match also in the evening, but I’m still young enough to do such things. Everybody said.

Oh and never underestimate a little tree stump in the middle of the slope while you’re exhausted. Man, anyone who knows me, gets why that fucked with my brain.

As it slowly it got flat and my snowboard was not really prepared, a little bit of wax would’ve safed a lot power. Especially when the last bit looked like this.

I’ll spare you the last few meters, because I had to take out my ski poles to get back to the car without unstrapping my board and walk.

Bottom line is – it’s my first ski tour and it won’t be my last, that’s a promise.

Peace out selfie.
